| The
Angel Festival celebrates
all things angel related in appropriately
the angel county—Los Angeles County
in California. At this festival you will
find booths selling angel ceramics, angel
jewelry, angel paintings, angel statues,
angel books, angel glass, and more angel
items than you ever dreamed of and angel
experts sharing what they know about angels. |
"The
angel fad started in the 90s," says Candace
Frazee, director of
The Angel Festival, "with
Sophy Burnham's bestseller
A Book
of Angels." |
 |
 |
"Then
in 1993," Frazee went on to say, "Jill
D'Agnencia of Los Angeles, placed thousands of
ceramic sitting angels — 10 per 1 square
mile — around LA after the first anniversary
of the civil unrest there."

In
1994, PBS aired their
In Search of Angels documentary
as did NBC with their
Angels: Mysterious Messengers
hosted by Patty Duke. |
The
US Postal Service issued a LOVE stamp with a
cherub angel
in 1995. |
 |
In
California, The Angel Store in
Pasadena opened as did Tara's Angels in
San Juan Capistrano—however, both stores
closed as the angel fad waned. But, Things
From Heaven in Ventura founded in
1995 is still open.
|
 |
Determined
that the angel fad not be a fad, but a trend,
Candace Frazee, Madam Chair of Swedenborg
Information of Los Angeles (SILA) since
1988, created The Angel Festival in
honour of Emanuel Swedenborg's 307th birthday
since, Frazee says, "he is the most prolific
angel author in history."
|
Emanuel
Swedenborg (1688-1772) the 18th century Swedish
scientist
who claimed that he spoke with angels and devils,
gave up his scientific studies to record and
then publish his spiritual experiences. His most
popular book is Heaven and Hell. |
 |
The
first Angel Festival was held
27 January 1995
and was so successful,
a second
one was held the same year, 16 September.
This
festival has been in the fall, annually, ever
since,
moving from its original location at
the Swedenborgian New Church
in La Crescenta,
CA
to the Memorial Park
in Sierra Madre, CA in
2003 for its 10th festival. |
